about me...
Maine-based portrait artist, Tom Gillis
Specializing in the use of charcoal & graphite, I will take a photograph of your choice and transform it into a one-of-a-kind, personalized piece of artwork.
My interest in drawing began as a boy when I used to spend time replicating sports logos and sketching my favorite athletes of the day.
It wasn’t until later in life, when I enrolled in an entry level drawing
class at the University of Southern Maine's Art Department, that I discovered the passion of portraiture. With the guidance and support of my professor, Nan Rainey, I acquired the tutelage necessary for success with this art form. My subjects include family members, friends, famous figures, musicians, athletes and Hollywood personalities.
I work out of my Berwick, Maine home where I live with my wife, Marie and three sons Oliver, Jack and Cooper.
